Purpose & Function

  • Restore Brake Pressure

    • When the ABS modulator reduces pressure to a wheel that’s locking, the actuator pump re-pressurizes the brake fluid so braking can continue effectively.

  • Maintain Continuous ABS Operation

    • During rapid ABS pulses, fluid is constantly released and re-pressurized. The pump ensures that pressure is available at all times.

  • Work with Hydraulic Modulator

    • The pump is part of the hydraulic control unit (HCU) that opens/closes solenoid valves to adjust pressure to each wheel.

Signs of Bad ABS Actuator Pump

ABS warning light stays on

  • Brakes lock up during hard stops
  • Pump motor runs continuously or not at all
  • Brake pedal feels unusually soft or pulsates
  • ABS codes stored in the system (C-codes, e.g., C0271, C0272, C1251)
