1. Move DEF from the tank

• The pump draws DEF (urea solution) out of the storage tank and sends it toward the injector.

2. Provide proper pressure

• It pressurizes the fluid so it can be sprayed correctly into the exhaust stream.

3. Ensure accurate dosing

• Works with the engine control system to deliver the exact amount of DEF needed based on engine load and emissions.

4. Enable emissions reduction

• DEF helps convert harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless gases (nitrogen and water vapor).

5. Keep the SCR system functioning

• Without the pump, DEF cannot reach the exhaust, and the emissions system won’t work properly.

1. Warning lights or messages

• “Check DEF system” or “Service SCR system” on the dashboard
• Check engine light related to emissions codes

2. Reduced engine power (limp mode)
