Description:
An EGR pressure sensor (Exhaust Gas Recirculation pressure sensor) 050746 is a small but critical electronic device used in diesel and gasoline engines to monitor exhaust gas flow and pressure in the EGR system.

Part Number: 050746, 50746
Condition: New
Manufacture/Brand: Cummins

Fits 050746 For Cummins engine systems ISB CM2150, ISB CM2150 E, ISL G CM2180, ISB6.7 G CM2180 B118, ISX12 G CM2180 EJ

Purpose of using 050746:

  1. Control EGR Flow Accurately

    • Measures pressure or differential pressure in the EGR system.

    • Sends data to the ECM/ECU, which adjusts the EGR valve to allow the correct amount of exhaust gas into the intake.

  2. Reduce Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Emissions

    • Reintroducing exhaust gas lowers combustion temperatures, which reduces NOx formation.

    • The sensor ensures the right amount of gas is recirculated, preventing over- or under-flow.

  3. Protect Engine Performance and Efficiency

    • Prevents too much exhaust gas, which can cause poor combustion, rough idle, or stalling.

    • Prevents too little exhaust gas, which would increase NOx emissions.

    • Helps maintain fuel efficiency by allowing the ECM to optimize air-fuel ratios.

  4. Diagnose EGR System Issues

    • Detects blockages, leaks, or sticking valves in the EGR system.

    • Triggers a Check Engine Light if readings are out of range, helping prevent long-term engine damage.

Signs of a Bad EGR Pressure Sensor 050746:

1. Check Engine Light / Fault Codes

The ECM detects out-of-range readings and stores EGR-related codes, such as:
P0401 – EGR flow insufficient
P0402 – EGR flow excessive
P2288 / P2289 – EGR differential pressure sensor faults
The Check Engine Light or MIL will illuminate.

2. Poor Engine Performance

Rough idle or engine hesitation
Reduced power or acceleration
Stalling at low RPMs

3. Excessive Smoke from Exhaust

Black smoke can appear if too little exhaust gas is recirculated.
Sometimes white smoke if EGR flow is excessive and combustion is incomplete.

4. Poor Fuel Economy

The ECM may compensate for incorrect EGR readings by adjusting fuel delivery incorrectly, leading to higher fuel consumption.

5. Failed Emissions Tests

A malfunctioning EGR pressure sensor can prevent proper NOx reduction, causing the vehicle to fail emissions testing.

6. Engine Overheating or Knocking

Incorrect EGR flow can raise combustion temperatures, which may lead to:
Engine overheating
Engine knock or pinging
