1. Boost Leaks / Loss of Power

• Symptom: Sluggish acceleration, low boost pressure, or turbo lag.

• Cause: Cracks, holes, or loose clamps allow unmetered air to escape before reaching the turbo.

2. Whistling, Hissing, or Suction Noises

• Symptom: Strange high-pitched or hissing noises when accelerating or boosting.

• Cause: A leak at the elbow causes air to rush in or escape, creating abnormal sounds.

3. Check Engine Light (CEL) / Fault Codes

• Symptom: CEL triggered, often with codes related to MAF sensor, boost pressure, or air-fuel mixture.

• Cause: A compromised elbow causes false readings at the MAF or MAP sensor due to unmetered air.

4. Rough Idle / Hesitation

• Symptom: Engine idles inconsistently or hesitates when throttling.

• Cause: Leaks disrupt the expected air-fuel ratio, especially at low RPMs when air volume is more critical.

5. Oil Contamination / Puddling Inside Elbow

• Symptom: Oil visibly collecting inside or around the elbow.

• Cause: Normal blow-by carries oil mist, but a cracked or torn elbow can trap and collect more oil than expected—especially in silicone or rubber versions. Could also indicate turbo seal issues.

6. Physical Damage or Wear

• Symptom: Visible cracks, dry rot, collapse under vacuum, bulges, or soft spots.

• Cause: Heat, age, oil contamination, or poor materials (especially in aftermarket silicone elbows) can cause failure over time.

7. Collapsed Elbow Under Load

• Symptom: Turbo seems to "choke" under boost, or airflow is restricted under throttle.

• Cause: Low-quality or worn elbows can collapse inward under vacuum, choking airflow to the turbo.
