Purpose of using 6A-100A-9275-3:

The FICM’s job is to:

  1. Control fuel injector operation — it tells each injector exactly when to open and close.

  2. Provide high voltage to drive the injectors (typically 48 volts on many systems like the Ford 6.0L PowerStroke).

  3. Coordinate with the Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM) to adjust injection timing, pulse width, and duration based on engine conditions.


Signs of a Bad Fuel Injection Pump 6A-100A-9275-3
:

1. Hard Starting or No Start


The engine cranks for a long time before firing, or won’t start at all.
Usually happens when the pump can’t build enough pressure.
Common in cold weather or after sitting overnight.

2. Engine Stalling

Engine may suddenly die while idling or driving.
Often caused by intermittent fuel delivery or internal pump wear.

3. Loss of Power or Poor Acceleration

Noticeable power drop, especially under load or when climbing hills.
You may feel like the engine is “bogging down.”

4. Excessive Smoke from Exhaust

Black smoke: too much fuel or poor atomization.
White smoke: unburned fuel (injection timing off or weak pressure).
Blue smoke: fuel dilution or pump leaking oil internally.

5. Poor Fuel Economy

The pump can’t regulate fuel precisely, leading to excessive fuel use.

6. Knocking or Loud Engine Noise

Bad timing or uneven fuel delivery can cause diesel knock or loud clattering.
May sound like metallic tapping or “hammering.”

7. Fuel Leaks

Visible diesel leaks around the injection pump or fuel lines.
Sometimes caused by worn seals or cracks in the pump housing.

8. Check Engine Light or Diagnostic Codes

The ECM may detect a fuel pressure issue and trigger codes such as:
P0087 – Fuel rail/system pressure too low
P0093 – Large fuel leak detected
P0089 – Fuel pressure regulator performance

9. Metal Shavings in Fuel

If the pump is failing internally, it may shed metal debris into the fuel system — a serious issue that can ruin injectors and lines.
Often seen in high-pressure common rail pumps (e.g., CP4 failures on Duramax, PowerStroke, and Cummins).
