Description:
The Injection Pressure Regulator DA2251463 (IPR) Valve is a key component of a high-pressure oil system used in many HEUI (Hydraulically-actuated Electronically-controlled Unit Injection) diesel engines — particularly Navistar, Ford Powerstroke (6.0L, 7.3L), and International VT365 engines. Injection Pressure Regulator IPR Valve 12V, 6.0L, For Ford Power Stroke, Navistar VT365 2003-2004

Part Number:
DA2251463
Condition: New
Manufacture/Brand: Navistar

Fits DA2251463 For Ford 6.0L Power Stroke 2003-2004, Navistar VT365 2003-04

Purpose of using DA2251463:

1. Regulate Injection Pressure

The IPR valve adjusts the hydraulic oil pressure (via the High-Pressure Oil Pump – HPOP).
This pressure directly controls how much fuel is injected into the engine cylinders.

2. Enable Precise Fuel Delivery
By regulating oil pressure, the IPR helps ensure:
Accurate fuel metering
Clean combustion
Smooth engine performance under varying loads and speeds

3. Assist in Engine Starting

The IPR must build enough injection control pressure (ICP) to start the engine.
If it fails to do this, the engine may crank but not start.

4. Support ECM-Controlled Fuel Strategy

The valve receives commands from the Engine Control Module (ECM) to open or close.
It ensures dynamic fuel pressure adjustments based on engine conditions like:
RPM
Throttle input
Load

5. Improve Fuel Efficiency and Emissions

By precisely regulating injection pressure, the IPR:
Reduces fuel waste
Minimizes smoke

Signs of a Faulty Injection Pressure Regulator DA2251463

1. Hard Start or No Start

The most common symptom.
The IPR fails to build adequate injection control pressure (ICP).
Especially noticeable during hot starts or after the engine has warmed up.

2. Rough Idle or Stalling

Inconsistent oil pressure to the injectors can cause:
Rough or unstable idle
Random stalling, especially at low RPMs

3. Loss of Power or Hesitation

The engine may lack throttle response or struggle under load.
Poor fuel atomization due to incorrect pressure causes power loss.

4. Surging at Idle or Under Throttle

Pressure fluctuations caused by a sticking or malfunctioning IPR can cause the engine to rev up and down on its own.

5. Excessive Cranking Before Start

You may notice a long crank time before the engine finally starts.
May only start after multiple attempts or using ether (not recommended).

6. Check Engine Light / Fault Codes

The ECM may detect pressure control issues and trigger codes such as:
P1211 – ICP higher/lower than desired
P1283 – ICP pressure out of range
P2290 / P2291 – Injector control pressure too low

7. Low or Erratic ICP Pressure Readings

If you monitor ICP sensor data, it may show:
Low pressure during cranking (below 500 psi)
Fluctuating pressure at idle or under load

8. Fuel in the IPR Valve (internal leak)

Removing the IPR and seeing diesel fuel or debris inside is a strong sign of failure.
