• Volvo D13 engines (approximately 2008–2014)
• Mack MP8 engines (approximately 2008–2014)
• Mack MP7 engines (approximately 2008–2013)

• Reduce crankcase pressure
  Combustion gases leak past piston rings (“blow-by”). If pressure builds inside the engine, it can force oil past seals and gaskets, causing leaks.
• Separate oil from blow-by gases
  The separator removes oil mist from those gases and returns the oil to the engine instead of letting it escape.

• Protect the turbocharger and intake system
  Without separation, oil vapor coats:

  • turbochargers
  • intercoolers
  • intake piping
  • EGR components

  This buildup can reduce efficiency and damage parts.

• Reduce emissions
  Modern engines can’t vent oily crankcase fumes directly to the atmosphere. The CCV system routes cleaner gases back into the intake to meet emissions regulations.
• Improve engine life and efficiency
  Proper crankcase ventilation helps:
  • maintain seal integrity
  • reduce sludge buildup
  • lower oil consumption
  • keep sensors cleaner

Oil leaks

Excess crankcase pressure pushes oil out through:

• valve cover gaskets
• front/rear main seals
• dipstick tube
• turbo oil seals

High crankcase pressure

You may notice:

• dipstick popping up
• oil cap hard to remove while running
• air/smoke puffing from oil fill opening

Excessive oil consumption

A failed separator lets oil mist enter the intake and burn in the engine.

Blue or white exhaust smoke

Oil entering the intake/turbo system can create:

• blue smoke (burning oil)
• white haze from breather fumes

Oil in intake pipes or intercooler

Too much oil coating inside:

• charge air cooler pipes
• turbo inlet/outlet
• intercooler

Some light oil film is normal on diesels, but heavy pooling is not.

Whistling or howling noises

A torn CCV diaphragm/filter restriction can create:

• whistle sounds
• squealing from valve cover area

Rough idle or poor performance

Especially on electronically controlled diesel engines:

• poor turbo response
• reduced power
• unstable idle

Check engine light

Some newer trucks monitor crankcase pressure and may set codes related to:

• crankcase pressure
• airflow imbalance
• emissions system faults

Excessive blow-by from breather

Visible smoke/vapor coming from:

• breather tube
• oil fill cap
• dipstick tube
