A Fuel Pump 2897671 is the main fuel supply component on Cummins QSK high-horsepower diesel engines. It draws fuel from the tank, raises it to the required pressure and meters the correct flow to the injectors, so the engine gets a steady fuel supply under every load. This is the right-hand (RH) pump for Cummins QSK45, QSK60 and QSK95 engines.

Purpose & Function

1. Supplies Fuel to the Engine

  • Draws fuel from the tank through the filters.
  • Delivers a constant fuel flow to the injectors.

2. Builds and Controls Fuel Pressure

  • Raises fuel to the pressure the injection system needs

  • Meters fuel according to engine speed and load

3. Protects Engine Performance

A healthy fuel pump helps prevent:

  • Power loss under load

  • Hard starting

  • Uneven running and misfires

Signs of a Bad Fuel Pump

1. Hard Starting or No Start

  • Low fuel pressure makes the engine crank longer or fail to start

2. Loss of Power Under Load

  • The engine pulls weakly or derates when the pump cannot keep up with demand

3. Low Fuel Pressure Codes

  • The ECM logs low fuel pressure or fuel delivery fault codes

4. Rough Idle or Engine Stalling

  • Unstable fuel delivery causes surging, rough idle or stalling

5. Fuel Leaks

  • Worn seals cause leaks around the pump housing or fittings

6. Unusual Noise

  • Whining or grinding from the pump area points to internal wear
