Description:
A Fuel Filter Housing 3946194 is the component that holds, protects, and supports the fuel filter in an engine’s fuel system. It is more than just a “holder”—it often includes important parts that help manage fuel flow and filtration. It’s a mounting assembly that the fuel filter fits into. It ensures the filter is sealed tightly so fuel can pass through it properly before reaching the engine.

Part Number: 3946194
Condition: New
Manufacture/Brand: Cummins

Fits 3946194 For Cummins Engines ISB (Chrysler), ISB CM550, 6B, ISB, QSB5.9, B5.9,6C, ISC, C8.3 Diesel

Purpose of using 3946194:

1. Holds and Secures the Fuel Filter

Keeps the fuel filter in the correct position and provides a leak-free seal.

2. Directs Fuel Flow

Channels fuel from the tank → through the filter → to the engine in the right direction.

3. Prevents Fuel Leaks

Proper sealing prevents fuel from leaking around the filter.

4. Protects the Fuel Filter

Shields the filter from heat, vibration, and external damage.

5. May Include Additional Components

Depending on the engine, the housing may also contain:

  • Fuel pressure regulator

  • Priming pump (manual or electric)

  • Water-in-fuel sensor

  • Heater element (prevents diesel waxing in cold weather)

  • Air bleed valve

6. Helps Remove Water/Debris

Some housings include a drain valve at the bottom to remove water or sediment from the filter.

Signs of a Bad Fuel Filter Housing 3946194:

1. Fuel Leaks

  • Visible fuel around the housing

  • Fuel odor in the engine bay

  • Can be dangerous due to fire risk

2. Hard Starting or No Start

  • Leaks or poor sealing cause low fuel pressure, making it hard for the engine to start.

3. Engine Stalling or Hesitation

  • Engine may stall under load or hesitate during acceleration due to inconsistent fuel flow.

4. Poor Engine Performance

  • Loss of power

  • Rough idle

  • Reduced fuel efficiency

5. Contaminated Fuel

  • If the housing is cracked or improperly sealed, dirt or water can enter, clogging injectors.

6. Air in Fuel System

  • Some housings leak air into the fuel line, causing:

    • Surging

    • Misfires

    • Difficulty starting

7. Check Engine Light (for modern engines)

  • ECU may detect low fuel pressure or fuel system issues.

8. Cracks or Physical Damage

  • Visual inspection may show:

    • Cracks in plastic or metal

    • Broken mounting points

    • Damaged seals or O-rings

9. Water in Fuel Warning (Diesel Engines)

  • Many diesel filter housings have water sensors; if damaged, they may fail to detect water, causing engine damage.
