Purpose of using P21-1019-103:

1. Driver input

You move the turnstalk lever or press its buttons:

  • Set
  • Resume
  • Accelerate
  • Cancel

2. Signal detection

The module inside (or attached to) the stalk detects which command you selected.

3. Signal processing

It converts that input into an electrical signal the vehicle can understand.

4. Communication to ECU

The module sends that signal to the vehicle’s main control system (engine control unit).

5. Speed control action

The ECU adjusts:

  • Throttle (or fuel delivery)
  • Sometimes transmission behavior

to maintain or change the vehicle’s speed.

6. Continuous feedback

The system constantly checks vehicle speed and keeps adjusting automatically to hold the set speed.

Signs of a Bad Turnstalk Speed Control Module P21-1019-103:

1. Cruise control won’t turn on
You press “ON” or “SET” and nothing happens.

2. Can’t set or hold speed

  • Speed won’t lock in
  • Cruise drops out randomly while driving

3. Buttons on the stalk don’t respond

  • “Resume,” “Coast,” or “Accel” don’t work
  • Only some functions work (partial failure is common)

4. Intermittent operation
Works sometimes, then suddenly stops—often due to worn internal contacts.

5. Cruise cancels unexpectedly
Even without braking or driver input.

6. Erratic speed changes
Vehicle may:

  • Surge slightly
  • Fail to maintain steady speed

7. Other stalk functions act up
Since it’s integrated with the turn signal lever:

  • Turn signals or high beams may behave oddly (in some designs)
