When your engine burns fuel, it creates exhaust gases in each cylinder. Each cylinder has an exhaust port that opens during the exhaust stroke. The exhaust manifold bolts directly to these ports and combines the gases from all cylinders into a single stream. This gas is then pushed through the rest of the exhaust system (like the catalytic converter, muffler, etc.), or into a turbocharger in turbo engines. |
