Purpose of using 06254:

  • Pressurize fuel — creates the high pressure needed for fuel injection and proper atomization.
  • Meter fuel — supplies the correct amount of fuel according to engine speed and load.
  • Control injection timing — ensures fuel is delivered at the proper point in the combustion cycle.
  • Distribute fuel — sends fuel to the correct cylinder in the correct firing sequence.
  • Support engine power and efficiency — accurate fuel delivery helps maintain proper combustion, power, fuel economy, and emissions.

Signs of a Bad Fuel Injection Pump 06254

  • Hard starting or long cranking — the pump may not generate sufficient injection pressure.
  • Engine will not start — a severely failed pump may stop delivering fuel altogether.
  • Loss of engine power — especially noticeable during acceleration, towing, or climbing hills.
  • Rough or unstable idle — inconsistent fuel delivery can cause uneven engine operation.
  • Engine misfires — incorrect fuel quantity or timing can cause incomplete combustion.
  • Engine stalling — the engine may stall at idle or under load.
  • Hesitation or surging — fuel delivery may fluctuate as pump pressure or internal components deteriorate.
  • Excessive exhaust smoke — white, gray, or black smoke can occur when fuel delivery or injection timing is incorrect.
  • Fuel leaks around the pump — worn seals or damaged pump components can allow diesel to leak.
  • Check Engine / warning light — modern electronically controlled systems may store fuel-pressure or injection-related fault codes.
  • Poor fuel economy — incorrect fuel metering can increase fuel consumption.
  • Unusual pump noise — whining, grinding, or other abnormal noises can indicate mechanical wear.
