Description:
A Fuel Filter Module 218405 (often just called a fuel filter housing/module) is a complete, integrated unit in a diesel or gasoline engine that handles fuel filtration, and often water separation too — especially in diesel engines. Water‑Fuel Separation Module, Model Fuel Filter For MX13 ESI, EPA17, 12V

Part Number
: 218405
Condition: New
Manufacture/Brand: Paccar

Fits 218405 For various trucks with Paccar MX13 ESI, EPA17 Engine

Purpose of using 218405:

Function Description
Filters fuel Removes fine contaminants that can clog injectors or damage pumps
Separates water In diesel engines, removes water that can cause rust or microbial growth
Regulates temp/pressure May include heaters or regulators to keep fuel at proper flow conditions
Sensor monitoring Sends info (like water-in-fuel warnings) to the ECU/dashboard

Signs of a Bad Model Fuel Filter 218405:

1. Hard Starting or No Start
Engine cranks but won’t start or starts after long cranking
Caused by restricted fuel flow from clogged filter or internal valve failure

2. Loss of Power / Sluggish Acceleration
Especially under load or when climbing hills
Not enough clean fuel reaching the injectors

3. Rough Idle or Misfiring
Engine feels rough or shaky at idle
Air bubbles or restricted fuel supply can cause uneven combustion

4. Check Engine Light / Fuel System Codes
Common fault codes (depending on vehicle):
P0087 – Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low
P0191 – Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Range/Performance
P2269 – Water in Fuel Detected
Module sensors can trigger codes when pressure is too low or water is present

5. Water in Fuel Warning
Most modern diesel filter modules have a water-in-fuel sensor
If the module can’t properly separate or drain water, this warning may stay on

6. Fuel Leaks Around the Module
Cracked housing, loose fittings, or worn seals can leak fuel
Often seen as wet spots, smell of diesel, or puddles under the truck

7. Fuel Gelling or Poor Cold Starts (in winter)
If the module has a fuel heater, failure can cause fuel to gel in cold weather
Leads to hard starts or no-start in freezing temps

8. Frequent Filter Clogging
If the module is internally damaged, it may not flow or filter properly
Replacing the filter doesn’t help for long — the housing itself is the issue
