Description:
A "Module, Assembly Engine Interface" is an electronic control module (ECM) or interface unit used in trucks to manage and coordinate communication between the engine and other systems in the vehicle. Engine Interface Module Assembly I766/I767 2007 BB 11L & 13L
Fits For ProStar Linehaul Conventional (Premium / Limited), 7700 Severe Service (built on or after 12/15/03), 7600 Severe Service (built on or after 4/1/02), 8600 Heavy Tractor
Engine: I766/I767 2007 BB 11L & 13L
Purpose:
| Function | Description |
|---|
| Signal Conversion | Converts analog engine signals to digital CAN messages and vice versa |
| Data Routing | Routes engine data to the instrument cluster, ABS module, transmission, etc. |
| Diagnostics Support | Enables diagnostics tools to communicate with the engine via the OBD port |
| Safety Interlocks | Participates in shutdowns, limp mode, or fault response scenarios |
| Power Management | May handle power-on/reset sequencing for the engine module |
Signs of a Faulty Engine Interface Module
| Symptom | Description |
|---|---|
| Engine won’t start | The module may fail to send/receive the signal needed to initiate engine startup. |
| Loss of communication with ECM | Diagnostic tools can't connect to the ECM. May show "ECM Not Detected" or similar errors. |
| SPN/FMI fault codes | Especially: SPN 639 FMI 2 – Loss of Communication SPN 625 FMI 9 – Data link error SPN 729 FMI 3/7 – EIM signal issues |
| Dead instrument cluster | No RPM, oil pressure, or temperature readings; gauges may not respond. |
| Check Engine Light stays on or flashes | Indicates communication or sensor processing issues. |
| No response from throttle or transmission | Signals from EIM to these systems may not be getting through. |
| Erratic or no DPF regen cycles | Because the EIM often relays exhaust/engine info to emissions systems. |
| "No Data" from OBD port | Techs can’t pull codes because the EIM bridges communication between the ECM and the diagnostic port. |
| Intermittent power loss | Especially during acceleration, shifting, or heavy load. |
