Description:
A gear fuel pump 3348701 is a type of positive displacement pump that uses two intermeshing gears to move fuel from the tank (or another reservoir) to the engine or another system. It’s a simple, reliable design commonly found in diesel engines, industrial equipment, and older or high-pressure fuel systems.

Part Number: 3348701
Condition: New
Manufacture/Brand: Cummins

Fits 3348701 For Cummins EPA98 15 liter ISX/QSX
Engines ISX CM570, ISX15 CM2250 SN, QSX15 CM570

Purpose of using 3348701:

 1. Collect Exhaust Gases
  • Each cylinder in an engine produces hot exhaust gases after fuel combustion.

  • The exhaust manifold collects these gases from all the cylinders and channels them into a single exhaust pipe.
Without it, gases would escape chaotically and reduce engine efficiency.

 2. Direct Gases Out of the Engine

  • It routes the exhaust gases safely away from the engine and passenger compartment.

  • The gases then move through the catalytic converter, muffler, and finally out the tailpipe.

3. Improve Engine Efficiency

  • A well-designed manifold ensures smooth flow of exhaust gases, reducing backpressure (resistance to flow).

  • Less backpressure = easier exhaust flow = better engine performance and fuel efficiency.

4. Help Control Emissions

  • The manifold channels gases to the catalytic converter, which removes harmful pollutants (like CO and NOₓ).

  • It ensures gases reach the converter hot and fast, improving emissions control.

5. Reduce Noise

  • The manifold acts as the first sound barrier for the loud exhaust pulses from each cylinder.

  • This helps make the engine quieter before the gases reach the muffler.

Signs of a Bad Gear Fuel Pump 3348701:

1. Loud Exhaust Noise

  • A cracked manifold or blown gasket often causes a ticking or tapping sound, especially during acceleration or when the engine is cold.

  • The noise comes from exhaust gases leaking before they reach the muffler.

2. Exhaust Smell Inside the Cabin

  • If exhaust gases leak from the manifold, you might smell strong exhaust or burning odors inside the vehicle.
This can be dangerous, as exhaust gases (like carbon monoxide) are toxic.

3. Reduced Engine Performance

  • A leaking manifold can cause loss of backpressure, which affects how efficiently the engine pushes out exhaust gases.

  • You might notice poor acceleration, reduced power, or rough idling.

4. Burning Smell or Smoke from Engine Bay

  • Hot exhaust gases escaping near the engine can burn nearby wires, hoses, or insulation, creating a burning smell or light smoke under the hood.

5. Check Engine Light (CEL)

  • A leak before the oxygen sensor (O₂ sensor) can cause incorrect readings, triggering the check engine light.

  • The computer may detect lean mixture codes (P0171, P0174) or other exhaust-related faults.

6. Poor Fuel Efficiency

  • If the O₂ sensor gets false readings due to a leak, the engine might run rich (too much fuel), lowering fuel economy.

7. Visible Cracks or Damage

  • Upon inspection, you might see cracks, warping, or burnt gaskets where the manifold connects to the cylinder head.
