Description:
A No-Spin Differential 24 Spline Rockwell 350S13 is a fully automatic locking differential (often known as a Detroit Locker) designed to fit Rockwell drive axles with 24-spline axle shafts. Its purpose is to maximize traction by automatically locking both drive wheels together when needed and unlocking during turns. No-Spin Differential 24 Spline Rockwell, 350 mm ring gear, 2.38-inch axle shaft diameter

Off-Road: Work Truck / Towing
Off-Road: Rock Crawl
Off-Road: Extreme Off-Road
On Road: Work Truck / Towing

    Purpose of using 350S13:

    • Prevent one-wheel spin
      • An open differential sends most of the engine's torque to the wheel with the least traction.
      • A No-Spin differential automatically locks both axle shafts together, allowing both wheels to drive the vehicle.
    • Improve traction
      • Provides better performance on:
        • Mud
        • Snow
        • Ice
        • Sand
        • Gravel
        • Loose dirt
        • Uneven terrain
    • Increase off-road capability
      • Helps the vehicle continue moving even if one drive wheel is lifted off the ground or on a slippery surface.
    • Automatic operation
      • No switches, air compressor, or electronic controls are required.
      • The locking and unlocking happen mechanically based on wheel speed and torque.
    • Improve durability
      • Built with heavy-duty internal components for high-torque applications.
      • Well suited for commercial trucks and demanding environments.

    Signs of a Bad No-Spin Differential 350S13:

    1. Excessive banging or clunking

    • A light click or clunk during turns is normal for an automatic locker.
    • Loud, repeated banging during acceleration, deceleration, or turning may indicate worn internal components or excessive backlash.

    2. Failure to lock

If one drive wheel loses traction:

    • The opposite wheel does not receive power.
    • The vehicle behaves like it has an open differential.
    • Traction is much worse than normal.

This can indicate broken locking teeth, damaged springs, or worn internal components.

    3. Stays locked during turns

A healthy No-Spin differential unlocks while cornering. If it remains locked:

    • Tires may chirp or scrub on dry pavement.
    • The vehicle may resist turning.
    • Steering can feel jerky or bind.

Possible causes include seized internal parts or mechanical damage.

    4. Grinding or metal-on-metal noise

Grinding from the axle housing is not normal and may indicate:

    • Broken locking components
    • Damaged gears
    • Bearing failure
    • Metal debris inside the differential

This condition should be inspected promptly to avoid further damage.

    5. Excessive backlash

    Symptoms include:

    • Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse.
    • Delay before power reaches the wheels.
    • Noticeable driveline slack.

The issue may be inside the locker or elsewhere in the axle assembly.

    6. Metal in the differential oil

During a gear oil change, finding:

    • Large metal flakes
    • Broken gear teeth
    • Steel fragments

can indicate internal failure of the differential or ring-and-pinion gears.

    7. Uneven tire wear

If the differential isn't unlocking properly:

    • Tires may wear faster.
    • Tires may show scuffing or scrubbing patterns.
    • Tire chirping during normal parking-lot turns may become excessive.

    8. Vibration

A failing locker or damaged differential bearings may cause:

    • Vibration during acceleration.
    • Noise that changes with vehicle speed.
    • A humming or growling sound from the axle.
