Fits 4008511520 For

Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, Volvo, Meritor brake system applications

Purpose of using 4008511520:

  • Prevent wheel lock-up (ABS): During hard braking, it rapidly adjusts brake pressure to each wheel so the tires keep rotating instead of skidding. This helps the driver maintain steering control while braking.
  • Improve traction (ATC): If a drive wheel starts spinning on slippery surfaces such as rain, snow, mud, or gravel, the system can apply brake pressure to the spinning wheel and, on many vehicles, request the engine to reduce power. This helps the vehicle move off more effectively.
  • Distribute braking force: It electronically manages brake pressure between the front and rear wheels to improve braking efficiency and stability.
  • Support vehicle stability: Depending on the vehicle configuration, the SmartTrac platform can include functions such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Drag Torque Control (DTC), and Hill Start Aid (HSA) to help reduce skidding and improve control in emergency maneuvers.

Signs of a Bad HABS SMARTTRAC ATC 4008511520:

  • ABS warning light stays on
    • The ABS lamp remains illuminated after startup.
    • The system disables ABS but normal hydraulic braking usually still works.
  • ATC (Traction Control) warning light
    • The traction control light stays on or flashes when it shouldn't.
    • The ATC function may be disabled.
  • Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
    • A scan tool compatible with the WABCO/ZF HABS system may report faults such as:
      • Internal ECU failure
      • Hydraulic pump motor fault
      • Solenoid valve fault
      • Wheel speed sensor circuit faults
      • Power or ground faults
    • These codes help determine whether the SmartTrac unit itself is faulty or if the problem lies elsewhere.
  • ABS doesn't activate during hard braking
    • Wheels lock up on slippery roads instead of pulsing.
    • The vehicle may skid more easily during emergency braking.
  • Traction control doesn't work
    • Drive wheels spin excessively on wet, snowy, or loose surfaces.
    • The system no longer intervenes to reduce wheel spin.
  • Brake pedal feels abnormal
    • Spongy or inconsistent pedal feel.
    • Pedal pulsation when it shouldn't occur.
    • A hard pedal in some failure modes.
  • Hydraulic pump runs continuously or not at all
    • You may hear the ABS pump running longer than normal.
    • Or the pump never runs when commanded.
  • Intermittent warning lights
    • ABS and ATC lights come and go, often caused by:
      • Internal module faults
      • Poor electrical connections
      • Corroded connectors
      • Low system voltage
