Purpose of using 745-K042436

1. Removes Moisture from Compressed Air

When an air compressor runs, it creates hot, moisture-filled air.
Moisture can cause:

  • Brake line freezing

  • Rust and corrosion

  • Valve damage

The air dryer pulls this moisture out before it reaches the air tanks.

2. Filters Out Oil and Contaminants

An air dryer contains:

  • A desiccant cartridge to absorb moisture

  • A filter to remove dirt, oil vapor, and debris

This keeps the air system clean and reliable.

3. Protects the Air Brake System

Clean, dry air prevents:

  • Frozen brake valves in winter

  • Premature wear of brake components

  • Air leaks and sticking valves

4. Purges Moisture Automatically

Most air dryers have a purge valve that:

  • Releases accumulated moisture

  • Self-cleans the desiccant

  • Maintains system health with minimal maintenance

Signs of a Bad Air Dryer 745-K042436

1. Moisture in Air Tanks
  • Water drains out when you pull the tank drain

  • Air lines feel wet inside
This is the biggest indicator the dryer is not removing moisture.

2. Frozen Brake Lines in Cold Weather

  • Brakes won’t release

  • Valves stick in freezing temperatures
If the dryer doesn’t remove moisture, it freezes in the system.

3. Excessive Oil in the Air System

  • Oil film in air lines

  • Oily discharge from the purge valve
This can damage valves, seals, and brake chambers.

4. Frequent or Constant Purging

  • Dryer purges way too often

  • Or doesn’t purge at all
Both indicate a purge valve or internal failure.

5. Slow Air Build-Up

  • Takes too long to reach operating air pressure

  • Compressor runs longer than normal
Moisture-saturated desiccant or internal blockage is common.

6. Air Leaks From the Dryer

  • Hissing at the purge valve

  • Leaking fittings or cracked housing
Leaking air prevents proper system pressure.

7. Brake Warning Light or Low Air Pressure Alarms

Caused by:

  • Air not drying properly

  • System pressure not staying stable

  • Leaks or poor air regulation

8. Contaminated or Degraded Desiccant

  • White dust in the air system

  • Desiccant breaking apart
This debris can damage valves throughout the system.

9. Corrosion in Tanks or Valves

If the dryer fails, moisture promotes rust inside:

  • Air tanks

  • Brake valves

  • Governors

  • Control modules

10. Overheating Air Compressor

If the dryer is plugged:

  • The compressor must work harder

  • Can overheat or fail early
