Description:
An air module A‑5161 - especially in the context of heavy-duty trucks and Eaton/Fuller transmissions - is a pneumatic control unit that manages airflow to shift components in manual or automated transmissions. Air Module Assembly, work condition, used take-off Kenworth T880 2024

Part Number
: A‑5161, A5161
Condition: Used In Good Condition
Manufacture/Brand: Eaton

Fits A‑5161 For transmissions in heavy trucks, particularly those using Eaton/Fuller setups

Purpose of using A‑5161:

Function Purpose
1. Directs air to shift rails or cylinders Controls gear selection (hi/lo, splitter, range) using air pressure.
2. Converts electrical signals into pneumatic movement In automated transmissions, it receives input from the TCU (Transmission Control Unit).
3. Maintains air pressure balance Prevents false shifts, pressure loss, or gear lockout.

Signs of a Bad Air Module A‑5161

Symptom What It Could Mean
1. Hard shifting or stuck in gear The air module isn't properly directing air to shift actuators (range/splitter).
2. No shift between hi/lo range Internal solenoids or valves may be sticking or leaking.
3. Air leaks (hissing sound) Cracked housing, failed seals, or damaged lines connected to the air module.
4. Gear grinding during shifts Air timing is off or pressure is insufficient, causing misalignment.
5. Transmission won’t shift at all (manual or automated) The air module may be stuck closed or not receiving proper signal/pressure.
6. Check Transmission Light or Fault Codes Especially on UltraShift or AutoShift systems. Fault codes may point to solenoid or air circuit issues.
7. Slow or delayed shifting Worn or contaminated valves/solenoids cause lag in air response.
8. Constant purge or air dump Malfunctioning internal valve may be releasing air continuously.
