1. Maintain Smooth Power Transfer

The U-joint allows the driveshaft to rotate while the suspension moves up and down.
Replacing a worn U-joint prevents vibrations and keeps the drivetrain smooth.

2. Fix Vibrations and Noise

A damaged U-joint causes:

1. Clunking or Thudding Noise

A loud clunk when:

Strong vibration coming from under the vehicle, especially around 30–60 mph, often indicates a worn or imbalanced U-joint.

3. Squeaking Noise at Low Speed

A rhythmic squeak that changes with vehicle speed is an early sign of dry or failing needle bearings inside the U-joint.

4. Shuddering During Acceleration

A worn U-joint can’t keep the driveshaft properly aligned, causing the vehicle to shake when taking off.

5. Difficulty Turning (Steering U-Joint)

If the U-joint is part of the steering column:

• Steering may feel stiff

• Binding or hesitation when turning the wheel

6. Visible Rust or Grease Leakage

U-joint caps that show rust, missing clips, or leaking grease indicate internal wear.

7. Driveshaft Wobble

8. Clicking or Tapping While Driving

Indicates loose bearing caps or excessive play.

9. Complete U-Joint Failure
